Bosso, Kanda

Well, here’s a funny linguistic point to liven up an otherwise very normal lunch. Bosso sounds Italian (and auto-translates to ‘boxwood’, but never trust an auto-translator, I say) but in this case has the pleasing double meaning of implying 房総, the old name for Chiba, where the restaurant sources its products. (Yes, I had lunch with someone who filled me in on this.)

With that bit of excitement out of the way, this is a competent Italian joint. Lunch consists of your choice from 2 pizzas and 2 pastas; You and I split the two pizzas (bacon and onion, squid and nanohana) and found them a little small, with heavily blistered crusts that weren’t especially chewy or flavoursome. Some things, like the squid and veg, were fresh and pretty; the bacon, which I guess is not artisanally grown in Chiba, was not. No coffees, but we did start off with a slice of their ciabatta and a bowl of thin cream soup. Tasted like cream of cream, which was interesting.

I could see this being good at night. It has the look. Hmmm, I just realized that they probably like to compare Chiba to the boot of Italy.

You’re not the bosso me!
