Late lunch, limited time…I still don’t want to let a day go by without trying something new. After all, I’ll probably only work in Otemachi for another…oh, 300 business days (pleasant thought!) so I have to make the most of it.
There’s a row of restaurants under the Yamanote sen / Chuo Honsen tracks just north of Eitai Dori, and I wandered over there. And for some unfortunate reason picked this place. The lunch menu is all ramen sets (Gokumen!) which include ramen plus a donburi (mentaiko, torisoboro, takana were the options, I think) for Y880.
Hey, on a miserable, cold, windy, rainy day, when you buy cheap food, you get what you pay for. This was a miserable, hot, fatty sort of shoyu tonkotsu, served just the way I hate with lots of little chunks of fat forming a thin layer on the top. The egg was just fine, the menma were just fine, the noodles were undistinguished, and the whole thing was over with merciful speed.
Oddly enough, I didn’t manage to connect the covered grill in the middle of my table with the fact that this is okonomiyaki at night. But it is.
One call does it all!
