Muromachi Coredo explorations continue; for a couple days I actually went to adjacent places on the 3rd floor – gotta get to ’em all eventually, so it’s actually better not to go to all the good-looking ones first. This place is nondescript from outside, but inside a long, wooded hallway leads back to the restaurant proper, which has a really peaceful, neutral feel. Especially at 2:30 when there aren’t any other customers.
As people get smarter about restaurant design, it’s easy to make even the chain-iest of places seem special. This is part of the En izakaya group, but I love the light colors and the stacks of bowls on the counter.
I also love the fact that there are 7 different plates in the lunch set (and there are 4 or 5 sets, not just this one). Unfortunately some of the side items here weren’t much to my liking, but that’s no fault of theirs. The fried tofu was really good.
And this fish, preserved in sake lees, was delicious. I love how they left so much of the kasu on there and burned in while cooking. The fish was bony, but that’s how they come from the factory. I’m not in the habit of visiting or reccomending teishoku places, but this is really a winner. Reminded me of the good old days going to that Roku Roku izakaya on the 5th floor of Roppongi Hillz.
They also have a sister shop called ‘grammie’.
